We’re all creatures of habit, both good and bad. It’s an automatic process, shaped by the small choices we make every single day.
But what if you could understand the science behind habit formation? Imagine being able to consciously design your habits, leading to a healthier, happier you. Intrigued?
I wondered the same for years, and after a lot of research and experimentation, I finally found the answers. Keep reading to discover how I took control of my life—and how you can too.
Hi, I’m Nury, a “wellness nerd” passionate about positive change. I love learning and sharing what I discover.
2014 – 2019
Back in 2014, I was a typical, tired, broke, and unhealthy college student. My days revolved around waking up late, a combined breakfast/lunch, and classes. I wasn’t living, and I felt terrible!
After graduation, I landed my first job, excited at first, but that feeling quickly faded. I was earning money, but still tired and unhealthy.
During this time, close family members were diagnosed with cancer and Alzheimer’s. These difficult times led me to ask Why? Why them? What causes these diseases? Can they be prevented?
These questions fueled my research. I read books, scoured the internet, and consulted experts. Initially, I learned these diseases were incurable. But digging deeper, I discovered people reversing them through habit change.
While working full-time, I dedicated my limited free time to this research, which motivated me to start exercising.
Initially, it was about looking good, but I soon realized how amazing it felt. I carved out 20 minutes before work for simple home workouts, following fitness YouTubers to create an easy routine (for free!).
2020 – 2021
Later, another relative was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, prompting me to explore nutrition and gut health. I was amazed by what I learned and decided to quit sugar.
As a lifelong Oreo lover, this seemed daunting, but learning to add foods to my diet, rather than simply subtract them, made it surprisingly easy.
Now in my 30s, I’m healthier and more energetic than ever.
2021 – Present
For the past four years, I’ve been on a journey of self-discovery and positive habit formation. It’s been incredibly rewarding, and I created Her New Habits to share my tips and insights with you.
To achieve my goals, I’ve built several healthy habits into my daily routine: I wake up early to enjoy the peace of the morning, exercise, read, and nourish my body with whole foods. I also love walks in nature for their physical and mental benefits.
Most of these items in my routine cost me 0.00 USD.
Here’s My Progress So Far:
Physical health:
- I exercise 4 times per week and walk daily.
- I focus on eating whole foods.
- I successfully quit sugar.
Mental Health:
- I meditate every day for 10 to 20 minutes.
- I write in my journal every day.
Creativity/hobbies:
- I read four books per month.
- I write daily on my blog.
I hope my story inspires you to create positive habits and embark on your journey of self-improvement.
