Is 30 Too Late to Start a Blogging Career?

Is 30 too late to start a blogging career? That’s what my friend asked, and it’s a question many women in their 30s have. If you are one of them, let me repeat what I said to her: Absolutely not! It’s never too late to start a blogging career.

Society pushes this idea that we can only set our career in our 20s, but that’s not true.

Are you wandering if 30 is a good time to start a blogging career?

Start a Blogging Career at 30 (and Beyond!)

Remember, even the most successful bloggers started somewhere. I was 28 when I started my blog, and yes, I had many fears:

  • Learning new technical skills.
  • Working independently.
  • Writing in a second language.
  • People’s judgment.

But these fears vanished once I started taking action. Since then, I’ve learned to set up a website, create content, and promote it.

Changing careers is a journey of self-discovery.

Now, at 31, I’m more committed and happier than ever with this career.

Blogging like any other career comes with its challenges. But your age is not one of them. It could be your advantage if you want to.

“Even the greatest was once a beginner. Don’t be afraid to take that first step.” —Muhammad Ali

It’s Never Too Late to Start a Blog

You can start a blogging career at 30, 35, 40, or even 50. What matters is not your age, but the work you put into it.

  • Ree Drummond (The Pioneer Woman), started in her 30s and now her blog is a massive success.
  • Catherine Summers (Not Dressed As Lamb), launched her blog at 39 and focuses on fashion and style.
  • Agnes (30somethingurbangirl), shares styling advice and started blogging after turning 30.

These women, just like you, learned new skills and built successful blogs. They had to start somewhere.

You can always change your career and start over.

Why Starting a Blog in Your 30s is a Smart Move.

Your 30s bring unique advantages:

  • Experience and Perspective: You have a wealth of life experience to share. Your unique perspective is valuable. A blog is a great way to share your unique opinions or beliefs.
  • Transferable Skills: Think of your past jobs. Those skills, like organization or communication, are assets.
  • Strong Motivation: Why do you want to start a blogging career? Extra income? Creative outlet? Find your motivation.

“You can learn new things at any time in your life if you’re willing to be a beginner”. — Barbara Sher.

Is 30 Too Late to Start a Career in Blogging and Make Money? Not at All!

If you:

  • Enjoy writing
  • Have a passion or expertise in one topic.
  • Are eager to learn.
  • Are patient and adaptable.

Then blogging might be a great career for you.

The last bullet point is essential. The blogging world is dynamic. Algorithms change, and your strategies have to evolve too. Flexibility is key.

Challenges of Blogging After 30 (and How to Overcome Them)

Blogging is challenging. When you start a blog in your 30s, there are many new skills and concepts to learn. Sometimes it seems too much, but it is possible.

Here are some challenges:

  • Traffic: Google’s updates can be tricky, and they happen often. Experiment and learn SEO (Search Engine Optimization). Getting the first visitors is hard. Stay patient and keep working. The right people will eventually find your website.
  • Website Design: Use beginner-friendly themes. Consider themes designed for your niche, like traveling or food blogging. You have two options: Install it yourself or pay someone. If you want specific features, ask an expert to help you. My theme is from 17th Avenue if you want to check the other options they have.

  • Technical Updates: Research before making changes. Or hire help. You can always reach out to the place where you bought the theme. Back up your content. In case something goes wrong you can use that. I’ve heard scary stories about bloggers. They lost their entire blog when they changed the website’s code by accident.
  • Monetization: It takes time. Explore affiliate marketing or digital products. Marketing is another skill you have to learn. Look for ways to create an audience. Use social media or start a Newsletter. Find channels to contact your readers and offer new products.
  • Taxes: Keep records of expenses and earnings. Include the domain, hosting, theme, or anything you bought. I tell aspiring bloggers to make this a priority. You will thank me later!

Becoming a Blogger in Your 30s With No Experience.

Most bloggers start their careers with 0 experience. You have two options:

  • Self-learning: Find resources online and learn everything by yourself.
  • Learning from Experts: Buy an online course and learn from successful bloggers.

Any option is great. Both need discipline and consistency from you. But both can help you create the blog of your dreams.

Self-Learning:

Most blogging beginners use this route. It’s free and convenient. You can learn by watching videos on YouTube or by reading other blogs.

I follow great bloggers like:

  • Nakisha who share valuable tips on how to start a blog this year.
  • Sophie Lee who started in college gives strategies to become a successful blogger.
  • Mia is another blogger who shares her expertise in her blog and YouTube channel.

Learning from experts:

If you want a faster way of learning, find online courses. Platforms like Udemy host courses that will help you build a blog in your 30s or any age.

You can also look for other type of couses. The options are infinite:

  • You can learn with Rob or Superstar Blogging.
  • Jeff Goings is another great option.

Experts are everywhere. Any of these paths will help you achieve your goal. Keep practicing and learning as much as you can.
